Stainless Steel 316L Flanges are made up of a corrosion resistant austenitic stainless steel that is particularly resistant to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking. There are different standards and specifications to cover the applications and dimensions of the flanges. The ASTM A182 F316L Stainless Steel Flanges belong to the ASTM A182 and A240 specifications which specify the material usage for high temperature and high pressure services. These flanges can handle temperatures up to 870 degrees Celsius and have 515MPa minimum tensile strength and 205MPa minimum yield strength.

There are different functional types of the flanges such as the slip on flanges, lap joint flanges, welding neck flanges, blind flanges and others. The SS UNS S31603 Blind Flanges close a connection by ending a pipeline. These are used in maintenance systems and to end a pipeline. The higher mechanical properties of these flanges are derived by the chemical composition. The 316 material has 18% chromium, 8% nickel, 4% molybdenum with carbon, manganese, silicon, sulfur and phosphorus in it. The molybdenum content helps the SS 316L Lap Joint Flanges and others to have the corrosion resistance against chloride ion. The SS 316L Welding Neck Flange is used in applications where it can hold the pipe in place during welding. It also provides extra welding surface for the connection. There are different types of flanges such as flat face, raised face and ring type joint flanges. These different types help in different application conditions. The raised face flanges have better spacing at the raised face for the 316L Stainless Steel Hex Bolt to go through. The 316L bolts, nuts and flanges are also good for welding due to the low carbon content. They avoid the intergranular corrosion as they reduce carbide precipitation during welding.
