ASTM A350 LF2 Flange is composed of general Carbon steel and it is almost always supplied in conditions such as Quench and Tempered, Normalised and Tempered or Normalised. These types of flanges have moderate impact toughness and moderate strength. Regarding machining of flanges of A350 LF2, these flanges exhibit excellent machinability, but the machinability of these flanges is based on various factors such as the conditions involved and various operations such as turning, milling, sawing, broaching, etc. Machining of flanges of A350 LF2 can be achieved by using the standard feeds and speeds that have been recommended by manufacturers of machine tools.

A350 LF2 flanges are in big demand in applications that use cold temperatures and do not need resistance to corrosion. Regarding the forging of these types of flanges, the temperature for forging should be in the range of 900 – 1200 o C. To avoid scaling from taking place, the soak times for flanges of A350 LF2 should be at a minimum. Yet, enough time should be allocated so as to allow the centre to reach furnace temperature. After the process of forging is over, the pieces that have been forged, should be allowed to cool down in still air. Flanges of A350 LF2 can be procured in Classes/Pressures of 2500#, PN16, 150#, PN64, PN10, 300#, PN25, 1500#, 600#, PN40, 900#, PN6, etc.

The typical Chemical Composition of A350 GR LF2 flange is Phosphorous <0.035%, Molybdenum <0.12%, Vanadium <0.08%, Carbon <0.30%, Sulphur <0.040%, Niobium <0.02%, Silicon 0.15 – 0.30%, Chromium <0.30 %, Manganese 0.60 – 1.35% and Copper <0.40%. Heat Treatment of flanges of A350 LF2 has to be carried out keeping in mind certain parameters such as Normalising, Hardening and Tempering. With Tempering, it is required that reheating be done to a minimum of 590 o C, this would of course be based on the desired final properties. This should be held for a time that is equal to the ruling section and then cooling should be carried out in still air. For Hardening, it is required to heat in the range of 890 – 960 o C, for a duration that is equal to the ruling section and then quenching should be carried out in water. As far as Normalising goes, heating should be done in the range of 860 – 920 °C, for an interval that is equal to the ruling section and if needed, this should be followed up with air cooling. Welding of A350 LF2 can be accomplished by the use of any welding method.

Low temperature carbon steel LF2 flange has a Hardness HB of <197HB, an Elongation of >22%, Charpy J (-46°C) of >20, reduction of area >30%, Yield Strength of >250 MpA (36 KSi) and Tensile Strength of 485-655 Mpa (70-95 KSi). Flanges of A350 LF2 are used in various applications in many industries such as petrochemicals, sea water equipment, gas processing, off-shore oil drilling companies, heat exchangers, power generation, chemical equipment, specialty chemicals, pharmaceutical equipment, pulp and paper industry, condensers, pharmaceuticals, etc.
