In A105 SORF Flange, the alloy contain low carbon and silicon containing steel similar to AISI 1330 Flange but with lower manganese content by having a slightly larger diameter than the pipe to makes it easier to connection with the pipe by 1 fillet weld, at the outside of the flange. ASME SA105 Weld Neck Flange is most common form of steel flange due to relatively low cost and possessing material properties that are required in carbon steel piping components and has the same bevel and thickness of the pipe, gives the highest level of joint integrity due to welded with a pipe.

Mild or low carbon steel contains 0.16%–0.29% carbon with silicon containing steel and manganese. This flange is malleable and it is possible to increase the surface hardness through carburizing whether medium carbon steel contains approx. 0.30–0.59% carbon with other alloys but has good wear resistance and balance ductility and strength. High carbon steel contains approx. 0.6–0.99% carbon with other alloys, we can produce very strong flanges. Ultra-high carbon steel contains approx. 1–2% carbon but has great properties of hardness and carbon steel flanges were carbon contain is more than 2% are called cast iron flanges.
